Sheffield United and Leeds United have recently been linked with Rotherham United shot-stopper Viktor Johansson.

The Millers’ boss Steve Evans has already stated the Swedish goalkeeper will probably not be at the club beyond the summer after Rotherham’s relegation to League One.

As a result of their relegation to the third tier of English football it is claimed that Johansson has a seven-figure relegation release clause written into his contract, hence the speculation linking him to the Blades, the Whites, as well as Stoke City.

Speaking to FLW, Carlton Palmer has expressed his thoughts on Johansson’s potential transfer to Elland Road this summer.

“I personally can’t believe that Johansson would settle for being a back-up to Meslier in that Leeds team after such a stellar season. Sheffield United could also be another club in there,” Palmer stated.

“They have shuffled their goalkeeping pack this season and could do so once again with relegation now confirmed. Wherever he goes next season, he will be a Championship goalkeeper, I am sure of that.”

Sheffield United have somewhat of a goalkeeping conundrum they have to solve in the summer. Wes Foderingham, Adam Davies and Jordan Amissah are all said to be out of contract at the end of the campaign. Whilst recent signing Ivo Grbic has faced criticism following some less than convincing displays through his nine Premier League games at the club.

Johansson could well be Chris Wilder’s number one choice beyond the summer.
